The redesigned Cambridge Journals Online (CJO) is launching soon

URLs will not be changing

The newly designed CJO is scheduled to launch on Monday, September 20th, with improvements to the following key areas:

Appearance

  • Pages will be changing to a fixed width layout to achieve greater clarity
  • A new color scheme will differentiate key areas
  • Journal homepages will be streamlined to facilitate access to content; additional information about the journal will move onto linked pages

Navigation

  • A standard drop-down menu will appear at the top of all pages (see image below)

  • Collapsible context-sensitive menus will appear on the left hand side of the page (see below for an expanded section)

Ease of use

  • Log-In and shopping basket will be clearly displayed in the top right hand corner (see graphic below)
  • Quick search and cite search will also be available from the top menu (also on graphic below)

  •  There will be clear buttons for 'Submit your article' and 'Subscribe to Journal'
  • A tabbed area on the journal homepage will display current issue, FirstView articles, and highlighted articles if available

Consistency

  • The layout, particularly the positioning of key menus and functions, will be consistent between all pages

All these changes are intended to simplify the key processes of content discovery, registration and personalization, for both users and administrators.

Minimal functionality changes

The general underlying functionality will be unchanged and all the URLs associated with CJO will remain the same. You will not need to modify your links.

There will also be new developments, for example:

Searching
Faceted searching across CJO and Cambridge Books Online will be introduced. When a quick search is implemented, the results will show clearly distinguished matches from both journals and books. A facility to filter these results by content type, subject, author, or other criteria will also be available.

Individual journal homepages
Current content and archives will be positioned more prominently on the page. Subscription prices will be more clearly labeled and easier to access.

Comments on FirstView articles
It will be possible to post comments on FirstView articles, which are published online ahead of print. Existing functionality enabling comments to be posted on published articles will be improved.

● CJOm will be optimized for smart phones and other small mobile devices

● Mobile devices will be detected and automatically directed to CJOmobile

● If CJOm users sign up for content alerts, or save searches or articles, these will be available on the main CJO and vice versa

● In summary CJOm will offer increased speed and convenience for mobile users

Special message for librarians with low bandwidth internet access

Thanks to a simplified design, low resolution images and an emphasis on text, CJOmobile will also function as a faster access point for readers in countries with low bandwidth.

Redesign notes:

As CJO is under constant evaluation, our developers will continue to refine the appearance of the site after it goes live. Some users may notice that further design improvements are made following launch.
